Biography

William commenced his insurance career in 1985 spending 3 years in a major broking house then 5 years in a composite insurer, before joining the loss adjusting profession in 1993.

Willian joined McLarens in January 2007 as an Executive Adjuster and was involved in development of the business in Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

William was involved in the initial development of the McLarens Major Loss Practice and has been head of Major Loss for Ireland since 2019. He has also managed a portfolio of major losses throughout Europe (including Ukraine) and the African Continent which primarily involved manufacturing and telecommunications losses.

William regularly handles losses in the retail, hospitality, manufacturing and Real Estate sectors.

Overseas catastrophe experience includes:

  • Hurricane Frances – Caribbean 2004
  • Thai Floods – 2011 – Multi-million Dollar losses for Japanese multinational manufacturing companies
  • Hurricane Dorian 2019 – Major Loss lead for losses on Grand Bahama including supermarkets, food and beverage manufacturers, telecommunication, airport and private island damage.

William has been the McLarens project lead for our response to the Covid-19 pandemic business interruption claims in the UK and ROI.

  • Multiple reinsurer (18 no.) appointment on a lead smelter loss in Germany – EUR 110m
  • Contingent Business Interruption losses in Europe and Africa resulting from the Thailand 2011 flood (GBP 70 Million)
  • Industrial property and business interruption losses in Thailand following the 2011 flood (excess of USD 150 Million)
  • Terrorist bomb claims to large retail risks in Northern Ireland on behalf of a government body (circa GBP 20 Million)
  • Products liability claim involving contamination of circa 40 claimants and sub claimants in Europe, Middle East, Far East, South America, and North America (GBP 10 Million).
  • Covid-19 business interruption losses for multinational retailers, Premier League and Championship Football Clubs, Cricket and other sporting organisations, Private Hospitals. GBP 20m.
  • Telecommunications/Broadband infrastructure losses in Ireland, Africa, Caribbean. USD 25m.
  • Expert Witness Assignments for Stockholm Airport – USD 5m.
