William has 29 years experience within the insurance industry, principally as a Chartered Building Surveyor handling property losses on a wide range of Buildings claims, including losses from Fire, Storm, Subsidence and Impact.
Substantial knowledge of building construction including historic buildings, defect analysis, repair methodology and procurement methods, and experienced in project management and specification of building repairs.
Extensive experience of negotiations with contractors and third-party surveyors/loss adjusters on settlement figures, including a fire damage grade A listed hotel reinstatement at £46.3 million, where a replacement structure had to be erected within the original stone envelope, along with other experience in dealing with similar hotel losses, including a total loss on the Shetland Islands, rebuilt on another site on the mainland.
Other major projects / claims I have been involved with include a fire at the nuclear submarine factory owned by BAE, a £14m high rise cladding replacement claim as part of a building guarantee claim, fires in recycling plants, and a replacement roof structure on a listed castle owned by Historic Environment Scotland.

- Claim for 3000 ton shiplift which failed while in operation, repudiated as damage identified as due to wear & tear
- CAR claim for storm damage to a school roof
- Claim for storm damaged masts under construction, assembled to measure wind speeds as part of a wind farm development (GBP 100 K)
