Global claims services provider commits to annual carbon reduction target of 5%
McLarens is first insurance sector business to undertake the globally recognised sustainability
audit and certification.
ATLANTA – MAY 2024: Global claims services provider McLarens has achieved the Planet Mark
Business Certification, recognising the business’ efforts in carbon footprint measurement and
reduction, and underlining its commitment to sustainability.
The Planet Mark Business Certification is an internationally recognised sustainability certification for
all organisations acknowledging continuous progress, encouraging action, and building an empowered
community of like-minded individuals. As one of 10 global partners of the UN Race to Zero, Planet
Mark’s process and mark is recognised by government and business standards, driving assurance in
sustainable progress.
McLarens engaged Planet Mark to externally validate its carbon impact as a company, measuring and
benchmarking the global business’ impact, engaging all staff, and credibly communicating its progress.
McLarens is now working with Planet Mark towards an annual carbon reduction target of 5%.
McLarens is also contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its annual
Certification. By completing Planet Mark Business Certification, organisations can contribute to 9 of
the UN SDGs annually.
McLarens’ scope 1, 2 and core elements of scope 3 carbon emissions (those emissions that the
business is directly responsible for or are easily under organisational control) have been measured,
reported, and verified by Planet Mark. McLarens is continuing to work with Planet Mark to calculate
its full Scope 3 emissions (indirect emissions, for example those within its supply chain).
With over 2000 staff operating in 45 countries across the globe, McLarens’ sustainability strategy is
focussed on its reducing carbon and environmental footprint as a business, and working with clients
to ensure insurance claims are handled in a sustainable manner. McLarens’ ESG Steering Committee
provides leadership for this framework, reviewing policies, identifying good practice, building team
competencies and engaging all staff in its approach. Policies aimed at reducing water and energy use
range from waste reduction, renewable energy, and electric car schemes to employee engagement
programmes.
Liz Tubb, Group General Counsel and Head of McLarens’ Sustainability Committee: “We are proud
to announce that we are now a Planet Mark Certified Business. Sustainability and business go hand in
hand. We care about our planet, and our actions speak louder than words.
“With the help of Planet Mark, we achieved significant milestones in the measurement our current
emissions and set targets for carbon reduction. This is an incredible achievement involving the entire
business.
“At McLarens we acknowledge that we are on an ESG improvement journey. We are realistic yet we
are ambitious. There’s a lot of discussion about sustainability and what appealed to us about the Planet
Mark certification was its focus on making a tangible difference.”
Steve Malkin, Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Planet Mark commented: “We are immensely
proud to be working with McLarens and to see the progress they’re making as a leader of their industry
to create effective sustainable change to their business.
“Our reporting empowers businesses to present their carbon footprint data clearly and
comprehensibly. Operating at the centre of climate tech, advisory and legislation, our unified model
helps businesses achieve tangible results that stand for meaningful climate action, giving businesses
such as McLarens the confidence to communicate their sustainability efforts effectively.”
“We look forward to working with McLarens in the years ahead to help guide them on their
sustainability journey.”
