Donny Poon commenced his career in loss adjusting in 2003 with an international loss adjusting firm before joining a local adjusting firm from 2005 to 2010. He has attained his Basic Certificate Course in Insurance Loss Adjusting (BCILA) as required by the regulatory body in 2004. In 2011, he embarks on his next journey by moving to Singapore to becoming the in-house loss adjuster of an insurer handling property and casualty claim. In 2018 he returns to Malaysia and become the branch manager of an international loss adjusting firm. Subsequently, he joined McLarens in April 2024.
Throughout his years in this industry, he has vast experience and exposures in handling various types of claims in non-motor/general claims which encompass property, financial, fidelity guarantee, public liability, engineering, plant and machinery, equipment. He has also involved in major catastrophe flood claims in Malaysia especially in Sabah and Sarawak in 2024 and 2025.

- 2024 – Listing of barge with consignment of metal scrap fell overboard (RM6 million)
