After graduating in 1990 from Reading University and a gap year working and travelling in Australia, Katie started work at Midlands Electricity plc in 1992 on the administration graduate training scheme obtaining an Associate of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. After working in Regulatory Affairs and the Company Secretarial Office, it was the role of Claims Assistant and then Claims Officer in the in-house insurance team where Katie realised where her skills and interests lay. Motor, public, product and employer liability claims were handled and investigated in house up to litigation where instructions were still given.
In 2000, Katie joined a personal injury motor team at Direct Line moving in April 2001 to Gallagher Bassett in Leeds where she initially worked in a Local Authority team handling a range of claims covering motor, employer including disease and public liability claims. Katie held a number of roles including a Team Leader and Senior Adjuster, carrying a large case load with unlimited authority in later years for the retail and commercial team. This included being involved in Client meetings and mentoring and training the more junior members of the team. After over 19 years Katie left Gallagher Bassett in July 2020 to enjoy a two year career break. Katie is also involved with the ACII – Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
