Richard began his career in a structural engineering firm, developing practical expertise in defect diagnosis, subsidence, and peril related claims while completing his BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying at Liverpool John Moores University. In 2012, he moved into the latent defect insurance sector, joining a Managing General Agent where he provided technical support to the claims function and built substantial hands on experience managing large and complex losses. His professional progression was recognised in 2019 when he achieved Chartered status with the Association of Building Engineers.
Following the MGA’s acquisition by HSB, Richard transitioned to the insurer in 2023, where he delivered technical support across both underwriting and claims. He draws on his extensive knowledge of latent defect insurance to inform underwriting appetite and review complex claims to ensure fair, efficient, and technically robust outcomes.
