McLarens Spotlight | World’s Largest Underwater Restaurant

The hospitality industry is constantly offering new, unique options to attract visitors. While it’s difficult to believe the already beautiful islands of the Maldives would need to go above and beyond for it’s new resort development, they’re doing just that – and McLarens was part of the team to make it happen.

The Hurawalhi Island Resort & Spa, now offers a spectacular underwater restaurant below the surface of the Indian Ocean called ‘5.8 Undersea Restaurant’ – appropriately located 5.8 meters below the surface. This project, however came with increasing pressure and was no small feat. McLarens’ own John Cupitt, National Marine Manager – Australia, was acting surveyor for the extreme initiative and shares meaningful insights on the venture including:

  • World-first project endeavors
  • Cargo surveying challenges
  • Location and weather conditions
  • Sensitivity to local wildlife
