Biography

After qualifying as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, Richard began his Loss Adjusting career in 1989, initially with McLaren Dick in Dundee. He gained a broad range of experience handling commercial and domestic property, casualty, BI, CAR, subsidence, Goods in Transit and Building Guarantee claims.

From 2009 to 2019 he worked as a Major Loss Adjuster/ Surveyor for Cunningham & Lindsey both as Team Leader and providing Surveying Expertise on Major and Complex Loss claims, as well as dealing with CAR and Building Guarantee claims.

Since joining McLarens in 2019, Richard has specialized in handling large and complex Building Guarantee claims, as well as handling Major & Complex Loss claims generally. Richard has significant experience of CAT claims in UK and abroad, including spells working on multi-million US$ flood and hurricane claims in Thailand and the Caribbean. Richard is a member by examination of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters.

NOTABLE ASSIGNMENTS:

In excess of 70 large/ complex Building Guarantee Claims for multiple defects to various buildings, including houses, blocks of flats, housing association developments and mixed residential/ commercial properties.  Claims for blocks of flats included phased repairs to allow for decanting of residents. Notable assignments include:

  • Multiple defects to block of 30 Flats (£2.5Million)
  • Multiple defects to 22 houses and flats (£3m)
  • Multiple defects to mixed commercial/ residential block (£1m)
  • Multiple defects to housing association block (£750,000)
  • Defective balconies to block of 50 flats (£1m over three claims)
  • Burst pipes affecting 62 flats in four blocks (£1.4m)
  • Fire damage to block of 50 flats (£15m)
  • Fire damage to Hotel (£45m)
  • Fire Damage to School (£4 Million)
  • Flood Damage to electronics factories in multiple locations. (£100 Million)
  • Hurricane Damage to commercial properties in multiple locations (£5 Million)
