After graduating from Confederation College of Applied Arts in 1984 with a certificate in Aircraft Maintenance, Roger began his career at Bristol Aerospace in Winnipeg, Manitoba. There, he performed structural work on Canadian Forces helicopters, including the CH139 (Bell 206B), CH118 (Bell 205), CH135 (Bell 212), and the CF-5 fighter trainer. He later moved to Toronto to work with Sound Air on Swearingen Metros and DC-4s, where he completed the requirements for his AME license.
In 1988, Roger relocated to Calgary to join Field Aviation West, where he installed cargo doors on Convair 580s for DHL and conducted heavy inspections on Fokker F-27s, as well as De Havilland DASH 7 and DASH 8 aircraft. He transitioned from the shop floor to sales and estimating, marking the beginning of his involvement with the insurance sector. This role took him around the world, surveying damage to DHC-6, DASH 7/8, and Embraer 120 aircraft.
Following a period as Director of Maintenance—overseeing 340,000 production hours annually—Roger moved into airline operations, managing a small commuter airline and supporting the launch of a transport category airline.
In 2009, Roger formally entered the insurance industry to support the aviation community. To obtain his adjuster license, he also handled commercial and residential property and liability claims. His mechanical background made him particularly well-suited to address commercial oil field equipment breakdowns, building on his extensive experience with aircraft turbine engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
