Biography

Trained as a Building Surveyor specializing on building defect analysis, property inspections and conversion/adaption of buildings, assets management, lease dilapidations throughout the London, UK area. Moved into loss adjusting for a small privately owned company in 1991, dealing with group movement claims and other property damage perils.

Between 1991 and 2009 worked with national and international adjusting companies in the UK dealing with increasingly complex ground movement claims, for domestic and Lloyd’s markets, including, diagnosis of damage, interpreting of site investigation data, monitoring data, design and recommendations on the best solution for the circumstance. Produced fully subrogation reports and documents and helped with recovery of outlays. Rose to a senior position and was involved with training of junior adjusters.

Emigrated to Canada in 2009, through an internal transfer for an internation adjusting company, based in Kelowna, British Columbia. Undertook CAT assignments in Alberta and was seconded to New Zeland for the first Christchurch earthquake in 2010.

Spent the last seven years concentrating on casualty claims for Lloyd’s through a specialist organization and developed a relationship with risk management team for Metro Vancouver completing pre-construction observation inspections for various projects and advising on construction risks.

NOTABLE ASSIGNMENTS

  • Completed pre-construction observation inspections for Metro Vancouver on a multi-billion-dollar project in North Vancouver
  • Completed pre-construction observation inspections for Metro Vancouver on Multi-million-dollar projects in and around Vancouver
  • Investigated a casualty claim for $9.7Million damages against an insulation contractor, determined others were at fault and had the Insured’s claim settled for around $1Million.
  • Through investigation was able to confirm that a $7.5Million Wrap-Up Liability claim should be addressed by the Course of Construction Policy.
  • Environmental claim at a remote heli-skiing resort involving 5,000 liters of aviation fuel leaking into Insured’s property, Ministry property, and water course. Issues included mountain access, date of discovery (January) snowpack (4m) and frozen ground. Initial claim presentation $2.6Million, settled at $2.2Million.
  • Was able to demonstrate to Plaintiff’s counsel that its demand for damages on a plumber’s casualty (water damage claim in a casino) was overstated by $400,000 due to incorrect account presentation, reduced the settlement from $1.4Million to $800,000.
  • Convinced Plaintiff’s counsel that Insured was not responsible for $450,000 fire damage to a rented property, because the occupant was mentally unstable and Insured was not required to ensure that the occupant took their mediation.
  • Currently addressing two Wrap-Up Liability claims for a College in the British Columbia Interior for in excess of $2.7Million.
  • While in New Zeland undertook claims investigation for earthquake damages, trained senior management on how to identify total loss situations and trained the engineers and contractors on how to address repairs to Victorian masonry structures.
