SITUATION
Fire destroyed approximately 3.5km of a conveyor system essential to transport ore for processing. Fortunately, all employees were safe and accounted for.
SCENARIO
Underground conditions post-fire were found unsafe, which complicate mine rehabilitation, removal and replacement of Conveyor system. Steps were taken to make the mine safe in consultation with local mine regulators. With limited stockpile of ore, the processing plant is placed in care and maintenance, until alternative methods of transporting ore to surface are adopted.
OUTCOME
Through the use of experts and a collaborative approach, the property damage and production losses were efficiently and accurately measured. The result was the claim was settled a mere eight months from the date of the event.
